Coronavirus: C&S leader stops large gatherings, Ayo Ni suspends all church services

Alao said this just as the Cherubim & Seraphim Movement Church, Surulere District Headquarters, cancelled all services and ordered its members to observe family prayers at home.
Alao said all Seraphs must join hands with the government to tame coronavirus with prayers and strict adherence to personal hygiene.
The Supreme Head said complying with the directive was in tandem with the church philosophy as a law-abiding religious organisation.
The Chief Public Relations Officer of the Church, Apostle Muyiwa Adeyemi Jp, in a statement on Thursday, quoted the Alao as saying that though he fervently believed in the unfailing efficacy and potency of prayers to solve all problems, “it is our civic obligation to be law-abiding and respect the decision of the government”, aimed at protecting citizens.
Baba Olori also instructed that churches with lesser congregation should also make their services as brief as possible.
He, therefore, suspended all retreats, revivals, seminars and other public programmes that would attract more than 50 worshippers.
The Supreme Head, who is also the Baba Alakoso of the Sacred C & S Church of Nigeria & Overseas, disclosed that he had cancelled the bi-monthly joint revival of the Sacred which ought to hold tomorrow (Friday) night in Ipetumodu, Osun State to underscore the church’s determination to join hands with the rest of the world to stop the spread of the virus.
Baba Olori advised all Seraphs to pray with Psalms 23, 46 and 91 in water, drink and use it to bathe at all times till the scourge of the virus would disappear.
He said if coronavirus had shut down economies and social activities in many countries of the world, we could not be unconcerned.
He pleaded with the government to be more proactive in protecting Nigerians and be more circumspect about foreigners entering Nigeria at this period and do more to locate some suspects who ought to be in isolation now but had mixed with the public.
Alao said no Seraph should panic about the virus because they were all protected by the blood of Jesus but they must be prayerful.
Meanwhile, the C&S Movement Church, Surulere District Headquarters has complied with the directives of the Lagos State Government regarding the suspension of all religious gatherings with more 50 worshippers due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In a letter, the District General Secretary, Sp. Ap. Pastor G. O Ogunleye, declared that there would be no services, programmes, meetings or any gathering in the church until further notice.
This is coming as the state has recorded four new cases of the deadly virus in less than twenty-four hours after five patients were reported to have been infected.
In a bid to contain the effect of the pandemic Coronavirus, the Lagos State Government on Wednesday suspended all religious gatherings above 50 persons in the state for the next four weeks with immediate effect.
Pastor Ogunleye, who urged respective families to organise their services and prayers at home while praying for the church and the country, said, “In compliance with the directives of the Lagos State Government regarding religious gatherings due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the church leadership has decided that there will be no services, programmes, meetings or any such gathering until further notice in the church. Accordingly, no entry whatsoever will be allowed into the premises.
“Families are encouraged to have their family services/ prayers in their homes. All should continue to pray for the church and the country at this trying time.”
On Wednesday, the Lagos State Government, in a statement by the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Prince Anofiu Elegushi, said the state had banned all religious gathering of over 50 people within the state.
According to the statement, the decision was arrived at after a meeting of the Lagos State Government with religious bodies in the state which included the Christian Association of Nigeria and Muslim leaders.
Also, the Ogun State government in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the state Governor, Kunle Somorin, banned social clubs, halls, cinemas, nightclubs, restaurants, cafes, and sports arenas described as high-density gatherings of people.
The government said any gathering of 50 or more people together had been banned henceforth for 30 days as part of precautions on the spread of coronavirus in the state.
It said that the ban would take effect for the next 30 days in the first instance
